Acy+Cay - Scene from Showtime by stayka Acy+Cay - Scene from Showtime by stayka
I thought the first pic for the New Year should be one of my original characters Acy and Cay from "Stardust vs Blackfire" [link]

Edit: After *SuzukaShin rightfully chided me for doing a bad job with the shading, I realised that I messed up anyway - there shouldn't really be shades at all, but rather lights, as Acy's neon stuff is usually luminescent, just like the floor of the 'Villa'. (Fortunately, Acy's neon blue contacts contain filters that protect her eyes from the constant lighting, and Cay has no problems to run a filtering algorithm for his visual sensors either. About everybody else is usually pretty annoyed at Acy and her luminescent outfits, though. ^^)

This picture is a scene from the beginning of Showtime! when Nardia called Acy and she answered the Viphon from her bedroom in her orbital 'Villa'.

As the last scene of the story before Showtime! ended with quite a fight (Acy accused Nardia of trying to get Cayvyn's attention by wearing a 'frivolous red dress', after which things turned pretty chaotic), Acy of course had to demonstrate to her sister to whom Cay belonged.

(By the way, you can only see Acy's clothes because she always throws her stuff around all over the 'Villa'. Cayvyn is very tidy and puts his things properly away, of course. ^^)

beautiful scene, just the colors that are too aggressive!

Well, the scene is an illustration for an original story of mine, thus the colouring of the characters is done on purpose that way.

Acy's "public persona" is that of an eccentric artist and she adopted wild flourescent neon colours as her trademark - that is, she wears neon coloured outfits, wigs and contacts. As she has to live up to her reputation, she also decorated parts of the Villa in neon (where people might get a glimpse).

Poor Cayvyn needs to go with her obsession, but then, he usually is adamant about wearing the colours of the noble family he adopted, that is green and gold. Of course those colours clash badly with Acy's neon, but that's how they decided to appear in public.

That way they set up such a showy appearance, that practically no one would even imagine they might be the pretty efficient vigilantes / sometime space pirates / "interstellar Robin Hoods" Blackfire and Infinity.

So the colours for that picture are not put together by chance, but very deliberately chosen to convey how the characters are actually looking in the stories.

She sure is a flashy one.
Nice job, though I wonder where Acy puts her legs.
The background is great.

Thank you very much!

I just wish I could draw Cayvyn's hair colour as it should be - his hair is supposed to be a metallic copper-red with gold hue. Somehow it always looks more like fire or so -_-'

You're welcome ^^

I admit I find his hair more orange than copper-red. But it does have a golden hue ^^

Well, it is supposed to be lighter than normal copper-red because Firestar has a darkish copper hair colour. (That's the hair colour Firestar used: [link] )

I see. Then maybe a slightly less bright orange and more gold should be okay.

Hm. I'll have to try that. Thank you :)
(Fortunately, Cayvyn can change his colours easily as he uses built-in nano particles in skin, eyes and hair to determine his colour design. :)

I guess I will use that for Acy's hair, too, as then she only needs to se wigs for the neon Alycia-outfits (there it is expected after all - but as Blackfire, wigs would get into the way, and she needs to have self-destructing hair anyway as she mustn't leave any material that could be genetically tracked to her ^^)

I'm looking forward to see what you will try next with Acy's and Cay's hair !

Acy's life is not an easy one, having to care about anything which might be left behind, as tiny as it could be...

Well, I ponder about drawing another picture from "Showtime!" where Acy and Cay went incognito to enjoy some vacation on a luxury space cruiser. When they went abord the "Couronne de l'Espace" as "Prince Alayvyn" and "Princess Jaynevra", Cay had dark copper hair and wore a black/silver/copper outfit and Acy had over waist-length metallic golden curls and wore a long metallic red evening gown when they first showed off at the captain's dinner.

Well, I guess I'll give Blackfire a protective shield that keeps her from losing any genetic material. ^^

Hello Stayka. I was going to wait 'till I read some story material of "Stardust and Blackfire", so I understood better (I was planning do that a while now, since you told me that universe was something special to you... I concluded it must be worthwile). But I got scared off by the German and great length of the stories -_-; So I'm going to see when I can read.

I'll shoot straight to the point : its the background of the work that I like most. The colour tones of the earth are really beautiful, as if they were done in paint ! I love the softness of the cloud forms hovering in the athmosphere. I also like the richness of the starry sky, with the deep blue and the black intermingling (this is what made me remember that a fully starry sky is not only black but also a very deep blue... its a bit sad that your *painting* makes me remind that - that just shows in how much a light-polluted city area I live, that I just plain forget these things *sighs* )
Do you know that the guys belly muscles stroke me quite a bit ? They're pretty pronounced, you know ! I've to be honest now and tell that the characters as they are drawn here on this picture don't appeal to me so. Their anatomy seems to me very well drawn (I always admire that - I draw very rarely and I find the anatomy of bodies - the right proportions hard to get on paper) but I don't seem to like their faces so... Also their hair colours seems too bright and too different compared to the other colours in the painting (especially the very very yellow of the girls hair). I consider you did this on purpose to create a contrast.
You know - I'd like to look at it more in detail and I find that the image is quite smallish. Maybe it would be intresting to put a larger version of the picture up ?
Hope you can appreciate my honesty on this one ^^;

BTW, if you click on "Download" you can see the picture in larger resolution. Hope that helps! :)

Thanks for the big reply, to explain me a lot of things... it certainly helps me to see in a different light. Reading the explantions, I wondered if they are a happy couple with equality ? I wonder if Cayvyn is doing ok, Acy seems to be pretty bossy !

Well, Cayvyn's personality develops pretty much during the stories. At first he is indeed very deferent towards Acy as he doesn't know much else (and she did set up his programming). But when Alan (the prototype android that was built by Acy's father) showed up, Cayvyn realised that Acy messed up quite a bit of his programming (she simply deleted quite some parts she considered improper). Alan (who considers himself Ryko's elder brother) copied him the missing files of the original Firestar crystals (the stuff Acy deleted), and from then on, Ryko became far more independant. Acy is a bit annoyed at Alan that he "corrupted" Ryko that way, but on the other hand, she is glad that Ryko still decided he wanted to be with her. (Although they get into quite lot of fights now when Ryko does the stuff as he sees fit. ^^)

BTw, you might want to read through the descriptions of the pics I uploaded here: [link] - there is a lot more explanations about the characters and the backgrounds.

need to add lighting and shadow. especially on account of the bright colors you used on the bedspread and stuff. Remember, multiply layers are your friends :D !!!

and I have a huge crush on your character. btw, when are you going to translate that story??? Now that I'm drawing them I would love to get to know more of the universe they live in, etc.

Yeah, the light/shadow part there is a *huge* problem for me. The point is - all the neon stuff is supposed to be luminescent, that is there'd be a lot of light there. (Acy's blue contacts filter out all excess light, so she isn't affected, and Cay can just run a filtering algorithm - everybody else isn't so fortunate XD)

About the English version - Shavana and I really need to find the time to work on it, but you know this drat time thingy -_-' But I'm happy you like them so far :D

well, then all the more reason to add ambiance.
You need to highlight the light that comes from the fluorecent parts and that light should be reflected ON EVERYTHING, on their skin, on the walls, etc.
mulitply layers can help you to convey that, and then you add on another layer set on normal highlights. just like I showed you with the DM pic :)

Wow,what a nice way to start the year! This came out really great, both the background and bed scene action is surreal.I can see Acy's love for neons, the bed sheets are killing me :XD:

Still,I'm sorry to say,something's bothering me: her left palm (the one on Cay's chest) seems to be larger/bigger than it should (I really don't know how to express myself so you'd understand [I have problems like that], but I'm referring to the part from where the thumb joins with the rest of the palm to it's opposite side,this way <------> ).And,this may be because of the small resolution,but I think there should be a small "bump" to where her breast should be,considering she's pressing against things: once from the arm inwards due to the fact she's holding Cay,and second due to the fact that she's pressing against Cay's back/shoulder.I don't know if this last thing is quite accurate and correct,but that's how I feel it should be ^^;

In a nutshell,it's a great pic, that I'd love seeing in a bigger resolution, and,I've gotta admit, this makes me jealous at how well you've gotten at composition and character drawing in digital painting programs,I surely can't get as far as you've gotten in this short period.

Thank you very, very much for your critique! *sighs* I fear you are right there... I think I need to take more care of those points in the next artworks I do! (BTW, Acy is supposed to have rather small breasts - as a matter of factthat's quite a fun issue in "Showtime!" which is about a movie where an actress is playing "Blackfire" and she has quite some boob which amuses Acy to no avail as she often has to crawl through narrow access tunnels and the like - and that actress had at least some DD cups and Acy joked that she would get stuck in about every access tunnel if she had such boobs.)

BTW, did you click on "Download"? - then you get it in 1000 pixels width. Or would you like to see it even larger?

By the way, this pic went through a lot of failed attempts...
If you are curious: [link] [link] [link] [link] [link] [link] ^^

The big advantage of a graphics program is that one can easily erase stuff that doesn't work without ruining the sheet of paper a drawing would be on.

Sorry for the late reply,I was tied up with college :|

You're welcome! I just hope I didn't bring you down :disbelief: I think you'll do a great job as always :D (Ah,now I see, actually this does not only make Acy a more believable character, but a really practical person,I like her thinking ^_^ )

At first I didn't click "Download",but I did now,and it's an ok width,I can enjoy it better like this :)
I can't consider them fail attempts, but rather WIPs and it's normal for a drawing to go through trial and error until you find the right combination.
I second that! But the big disadvantage, for people that are not used to not feeling the size of their drawing under their thumbs (like me) it's harder to work on these kind of programs.

Don't worry, you didn't bring me down. It just showed where i have to work again. ^^

BTW, about Acy's breasts - actually you don't really see much of her - it occurred to me that you might have mistaken the part of Cay's shoulder as a part of Acy. It is more evident in the WIPs I posted how the pose is constructed.

Well, I think working with a graphics program is the same as working traditionally - it all needs lots of practise :D
