Jedi Master for Dido-Antares by stayka Jedi Master for Dido-Antares by stayka
This is the first of the prize pics for the winners of my Stardust vs Blackfire contest.

This picture was requested by ~Dido-Antares for her second prize in my contest with this picture: [link]

She wanted to have a picture of Obi-Wan Kenobi using his light saber. I hope you like the result!

BTW, here is a WiP to show that I actually dressed him under the cloak XD [link] [link]

He looks brave and ready for
serious action:nod:
I sympathize with Obi Wan-
he sacrificed everything for Anakin,
had to make many difficult decisions,
a great responsibility on his shoulders...
His agility and cunning mind saved him
from the numerous trials
but isn't it an image of a true, classic hero ?

Well,he is my favourite hero from Star wars, beside Boba fett,
so great praise and admiration
for your hard work,Stayka:clap:

Personally I think this is one of your best pictures.
The details in his face and especially in his hair make it really stand out. The lighting is also much better than in most of your previous pictures because you didn't forget about the lightsaber's glow on his arms.
Still, his right boot (from the viewer's persepctive) and leg should have more of a shadow from the cape on them.

Thank you! And yeah, I guess you are right about the shadow of the cape.

I really hope I will not botch the lighting in my next pic again - with the lightsaber I had a definite source of light and the new pic doesn't have a proper light source again -_-'

Try and choose one point and make a light X or a dot on a seperate layer. Then just take that as your light source and make surfaces that face in that direction lighter. Pay attention to everything that would cast a shadow and in the end you can just erase the layer with your "light source".

Naw, that's not the problem - the problem in the SvB pics is that there is no fixed light source in a way as the floor is slightly luminescent and parts of the clothes, too. So it is basically mostly indirectly lighted and that is what get's me into trouble with where to put the shading.

Yep, that's tricky.
Why did you ever come up with an evironment that makes proper light/shadow so hard?

Because it was written in the stories that way. ^^ I know how it is supposed to look, but I never spent much time on how I could draw it when I designed it. XD

I mean, Acy in her luminescent neon outfits always posed quite a problem when drawing her with traditional colours, too. Only with the GIMP I finally managed to show the colours as I envisioned them for her :D

You've been doing cool work too, I'm happy that I now find some time to comment on (your) art. I like your Obi-Wan. I think you captured the character very well : his benevolent, wise demeanour, and his very intense, keen, wise eyes. The sword pose is also very good. The cloak is well-executed (good detail with the light glare on the sleeves !) The only remarked I'd have is that compared to the realisticness of the character, the background looks a bit simple, cartoonish. I think it deserves a bit more gloss, and intricacy. Maybe you did this on purpose to create contrast or maybe it was just very hard to do (or lack of time ?)

Thank you!

Well, my main problem is - I just suck at backgrounds... :crying:

I don't agree : these are surely excellent backgrounds

It's precisely because the background in your Obi-wan artwork doesn't reach your usual level that I remarked on it.

Oops, I just noticed you mean the other Showtime pic. LOL, to be honest - I'm recycling the planet Tarishaan since I first drew it (thanks to layers in GIMP XD)

I'm on to you ! You're trying to stomp on your own work :shakefist: Well, I refuse to buy it, and still think you're doing well. At the very minimum, you seriously think about your backgrounds, even if you're not satisfied about them :)

Well, the Sakura BG is simple a simple "Plasma" cloud rendered with the GIMP (time: maybe a fraction of a second), and the Showtime BG is a modified astronomical picture. And the BG I set up for the DM pic was easy because I just recreated a more or less dark screenshot from the series which didn't really need much effort as it was mainly dark XD

Wow! When I saw that picture of yours, I was really dumbstruck! It's really beautiful! A great portrayal of Obi-Wan Kenobi, and one that does him definitly justice ;) Great job! :) It's not easy to find such a great portrayal of him as the one you've done :)
You reminded me of the time when I used to draw Star Wars characters in my english notebook in class :D I was (and somehow still am XD ) a complete star wars nerd ^^

Well, I was hopelessly in love with Luke when I was little *grin* Thus I did quite some drawings of Star Wars characters, then, too. XD

But I'm happy you like the pic! I studied a lot of photos for it first so that I could make Obi-Wan look nice ^^

:o Yeh!!! I was not the only one! :D I was hopelessly in love with Luke Skywalker too when I was younger! XD I even used to play Star Wars with my barbie dolls when I was 5 and desperatly wanted a black ken so I could have Lando Calrissian XD I already had a blond and brunette so it was alright for Luke and Han ;) My sis and I even wrapped up an old and ugly barbie into aluminium paper to do C3PO.

OMG! Thank you very much ! It's perfect (hell, how I adore this man)!
You have been great, the painting is great, the position is well executed and the figure is accurate to the original: it is actually MY Obi-Wan =D.

Thank you for this picture so pretty! It is the first time that someone pleased me with a picture of Star Wars :happycry:(and especially of my Master Kenobi ... someone dares to say that he is not sexy :devilish:).

Kisses, beautiful and many thanks again :glomp:!
